Raising Awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) is pictured with Rep. Tim Briggs (D-Montgomery) and Darren and Phyllis Sudmans. The Sudmans started the non-profit organization Simon’s Fund to raise awareness about heart conditions and sudden cardiac arrest in children. Vereb has sponsored legislation, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Prevention Act, which requires that a student athlete be removed from play if the athlete exhibits signs or symptoms of SCA while participating in an athletic activity or is known to have exhibited signs or symptoms of SCA prior to or following an athletic activity.
