Arraignment Proceedings for Penn State Abuse Case Need to be Reviewed, Vereb Says
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) today issued the attached letters to Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Ronald D. Castille and Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly regarding the arraignment hearing for former Penn State football coach Gerald Sandusky on charges of child sexual abuse. These letters were sent as a follow-up to a letter Vereb sent to Justice Castille yesterday.
Recent reports have linked District Judge Leslie Dutchot, who presided over the arraignment, to The Second Mile organization – a nonprofit organization founded by Sandusky to help at-risk children. Additionally, campaign finance reports show that a fundraiser for Dutchot was hosted by a chairperson for The Second Mile.
Sandusky was released on $100,000 unsecured bail – even though prosecutors requested bail be set at $500,000 and that Sandusky be required to wear a tracking bracelet.
