Vereb Applauds Gaming Board Chairman’s Support of Moving Board’s Investigative Arm to the Office of Attorney General
HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) issued the following statement regarding Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) Chairman William Ryan’s announcement that he wants to move the PGCB’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement (BIE) to the Office of the Attorney General. Vereb has sponsored legislation, House Bill 262, which makes this change, was passed by the House in February and has been awaiting consideration by the Senate:
“The current gaming law was flawed from the beginning. It created a breeding ground for corruption. The first step in bringing integrity to the system is to make the BIE an independent, investigatory agency. It speaks volumes that the new Gaming Board chairman wants to move BIE to the Office of the Attorney General.
“House Republicans have been championing this issue for years. Now that the chairman of the Gaming Board also supports the change, I am hopeful that the Senate will take action and vote on my legislation to make the BIE independent of the board.”
