Vereb Applauds Governor’s Decision to Sit on Delaware River Port Authority’s Board
Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Tom Corbett’s decision to sit on the board of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA). The authority has come under fire in recent weeks for misuse of public dollars and unethical conduct. Vereb has been working with New Jersey Assemblyman Domenick DiCicco Jr. (R-Gloucester) to reform the DRPA’s federal charter.
“For too long, the DRPA has operated as if it is a sovereign nation, accountable to no one. Even after the public outcry last summer over the agency’s mismanagement, top officials, for the most part, balked at any significant reforms. The gross mismanagement and exploitation of positions for personal gain are sickening. As a result, I have been at the forefront in calling for a massive overhaul of the DRPA and have repeatedly implored the governor for his direct involvement.
“I fully support Governor Corbett’s decision to sit on the board and am thrilled that he will be serving as chair. His involvement in the DRPA board will bring a breath of fresh air to a public agency that has operated behind closed doors for far too long. I look forward to working with the governor and supporting his efforts to reform the DRPA.”
